Stelios Apostolopoulos (born 1962) studied electrical engineering and cinematography in Athens. He is an acclaimed Director of Photography with 30 years of experience in documentary, fiction and advertising. He is also Greece's most accomplished underwater cinematographer, contributing to more than 100 projects, and a licenced drone operator. Recent award-winning work as DoP includes Dolphin Man, The Journey of Food, A Family Affair, Little Land, 1821, Sayome and A Place Without People. Stelios has co-produced, shot & directed The Call of the Mountain, which won the Prix Via Stella – France 3 at PriMed, Marseille, the Prize for Best Cinematography at the Sole Luna Festival, Sicily , the Audience Award at the Agon Int. Archaeological Film Festival and the Mid-Length Award at Halkida Docs. He has collaborated with global media companies & top greek and international directors, incl. Costa-Gavras, Manthoulis, Panousopoulos, Koutras, Tsangari & Tsiolis.
Stelios is the founder/CEO of Out of the Blue underwater filming services and was a founding partner at Anemon Productions until 2018. He recently established Aori Films together with long-time collaborator Nikos Dayandas, where he produces documentary, fiction and commercial works.
